Job Description

Job Description

Reports To: Program Director of Children’s Advocacy Services
Program: Supervised Visitation
Location: Rockland County /Mobile
Hours Per Week: Per-Diem
FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt

Salary : $18.00-$28.00 per-hour

Summary Description:

The Supervised Visitation Program delivers high-quality, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive

supervised and coached visitation services to parents involved in neglect or abuse proceedings in Rockland County. Visits occur in community settings designed to foster the re-establishment of bonds between

parents and children—bonds that may have been disrupted due to the removal of children or

parents from their home environments. The purpose of supervised visitation is to provide a temporary, supportive framework, with the goal of transitioning parents toward less restrictive or unsupervised visitation. This program offers both traditional supervised visits and coached visitation. While traditional supervision involves monitors observing and documenting all aspects of the visit, coached visitation takes a more interactive and supportive approach. A visit coach collaborates with parents before the visit to plan, intervenes during the visit when necessary, and provides post-visit debriefing sessions with parents—and with children, when appropriate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe emotional and physical environment during visitation.
  • Abide by all organization/program policies and procedures.
  • Schedule supervised or coached visitation appointments.
  • Document each visitation completely and objectively in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Maintain paperwork in a timely and professional manner.
  • Arrange transportation for child(ren), if applicable.
  • Drive children and/or parents when appropriate.
  • Ensure all participants follow organization/program policies and procedures.
  • Remain neutral to all participants, at all times act as a professional, independent person.

Key Competencies:

  • Knowledge of the common challenges associated with mental health conditions.
  • Knowledge of the common challenges associated with child welfare involved families.
  • Familiarity with and ability to effectively use Microsoft Word.
  • Strong Crisis intervention skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Bilingual
  • Fluency in Haitian Creole required.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Visitation Monitor is expected to complete documentation in a timely manner, as per DSS contract and agency’s standards.

Requirements:

  • Must be Twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
  • Must have experience in the field of child welfare or related social service field.
  • Complete Coached Visitation training.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and the ability to work successfully with a wide range of people.
  • Must be able to work hours that facilitate meetings with families after school hours and weekends.
  • Must be reliable and able to work independently and understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and a driving record that is satisfactory to our insurance carrier.
  • Must maintain current New York State Defensive Driving certification.

  • Strong computer knowledge: typing, communication tools, scheduling tools and web browsers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and database management systems.
  • Fluency in English (Reading, Writing, Speaking).
  • Fluency in Haitian-Creole.
  • Must be cleared and maintain clearance by applicable regulatory clearances as required.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Special Considerations :

  • Hours per week, reporting structure, and location are subject to change per program needs.
  • Must be able to supervise visits with families during after school hours and weekends.

Mandated Reporter:

This is a Mandated Reporter position. The NYS Justice Center legislation defines anyone who has regular and substantial contact with any person with special needs as a “custodian” under the law and, therefore, a mandated reporter. You can be held liable by both the civil and criminal legal systems for intentionally failing to make a report.
