Part-Time Museum Shop Manager

3-4 days per week

The Westmoreland Museum of American Art seeks an experienced Museum Shop Manager to oversee all aspects of the Museum Shop’s operations, including retail sales, inventory, staff and volunteer supervision, e-commerce, merchandising, vendor and consignor relations, and financial reporting. This position plays a key role in driving revenue growth while supporting and advancing the Museum’s mission.

Position Summary

The Museum Shop Manager is responsible for the daily and long-term management of the Museum Shop, café retail operations, and online store. The role ensures a welcoming, mission-aligned visitor experience while maintaining strong financial controls, effective merchandising strategies, and productive relationships with artists, consignors, vendors, staff, and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily shop and café operations, sales performance, budgets, and POS systems
• Oversee inventory control, ordering, pricing, merchandising, and fiscal year-end inventory
• Manage vendor and consignment relationships
• Maintain and update the online Museum Shop (Shopify), including product listings and order fulfillment
• Train and supervise shop staff and volunteers
• Plan and execute annual artisan markets
• Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly sales and operational reports

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of retail management experience with buying experience (museum shop or boutique experience with artisans and working with consignors preferred along with some event planning background, minimal café experience.)
• Experience with budgeting, inventory management, sales tax, wholesale and vendor/consignment agreements
• Proficiency with POS systems, Microsoft Office with strong Excel skills, and e-commerce platforms
• Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, analytical, and leadership skills
• Ability to work on-site days, evenings, and weekends as required
