Job Description

Location:

The University of Louisville School of Medicine is seeking a self-driven and collaborative Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to cutting-edge research. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team focused on advancing both basic and translational studies in the field of neuroscience and bone biology. The laboratory is based in Louisville, Kentucky.

Position Summary:

Our lab is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team focused on investigating the mechanism of Vascular Cognitive Impairment (VCI) following Ischemic Stroke and Alzheimer’s Disease. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge research integrating epigenetics, inflammation, and neurovascular biology.

Research Focus:

The successful candidate will utilize advanced unbiased omics approaches—including RNA-Seq, and transcriptome—to identify and characterize genetic and epigenetic alterations that contribute to the relationship between proinflammatory signaling and ischemic brain injury. Functional validation will involve both in vitro and in vivo models (middle cerebral artery occlusion), including brain endothelial/microglial cell lines and patient-derived organoids (PDOs).

Responsibilities:

  • Expert in micro-surgery in mouse model (middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) and TBI
  • Design and conduct experiments using high-throughput sequencing and single-cell technologies.
  • Perform molecular biology techniques (e.g., qPCR, Western blotting, immunostaining).
  • Analyze transcriptomic, epigenomic, and proteomic data using bioinformatics tools.
  • Conduct experiments in rodent models(mouse) and cell cultures.
  • Collaborate with team members and contribute to manuscript preparation and grant writing.
  • Present research findings at internal meetings and national/international conferences.

Qualifications:

  • PhD or MD/PhD in Neuroscience or a related field.
  • Strong background in neurobiology, vascular biology, or epigenetic regulation.
  • Experience with middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) and TBI surgery
  • Behavior study (memory function) in mouse model is preferred.
  • A track record of first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with stroke or neuroinflammation models.
  • Familiarity with omics data analysis pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with organoids or primary brain cell cultures.

Application Instructions:

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, and contact information for three references. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled
