Job Description

The Staff Physician Fellow participates in an organized post-residency medical training program in which they have daily contact with patients and assume responsibility for their care, under the supervision of an accountable physician faculty member. All work performed by the Staff Physician Fellow must be relevant to their applicable academic field of study, and their term of employment shall not exceed the length of time necessary to complete the goals and objective of the training program, which shall not exceed three years of service. The Staff Physician Fellow thoroughly participates and engages in educational and scholarly activities associated with the training program, including passing of examinations, actively participating in seminars and other scholarly activities, attending required meetings, etc. They perform consultation, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients, providing safe, effective, and compassionate patient care under supervision. They demonstrate their own knowledge base and use resources for clinical problem-solving, but also know when to make proper use of the available supervisory and support systems. They analyze their own practice for needed improvement and seek advice and input when necessary. They find and use evidence from scientific studies and clinical guidelines, using systematic approaches to improve patient care and reduce errors. They provide the highest standard of patient care and complete the associated medical record documentation in a timely fashion. They contribute to the working environment of the department by maintaining a professional atmosphere and adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets. Staff Physician Fellows on visas must also adhere to the conditions detailed by the U.S. Department of State. The list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary. Core qualifications include an M.D., D.O., or comparable degree in relevant field, certification in relevant specialty or field, completion of residency or prior qualifying training, ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form, ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion, commitment to the University’s core values, and ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
