Powers Catholic High School, Flint, Michigan is accepting resumes for a Theology Teacher position reporting to the Principal.

Established in 1970, Powers Catholic High School provides a Catholic education to young people in grades 9-12. Position Summary: As a Theology Teacher at Powers Catholic High School, you'll be instrumental in realizing the mission of the Catholic Diocese of Lansing: to educate and form young people into disciples who reach their full spiritual, academic, emotional, and physical potential. Our schools are prayerful communities of witness, evangelization, and discipleship, where the distinctly Christian way of life is modeled, taught, and lived, always grounded in truth and Christ. You will play a crucial role in shaping young lives, guiding students to deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith and live out Gospel values.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: - Uphold Catholic Mission: Actively support the unique Catholic mission of the school through your words, actions, and instruction, consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Model Gospel Values: Demonstrate lived Gospel values by being an active member of a parish community and striving to model Jesus' teachings through your attitude and example.
- Effective Lesson Planning: Prepare well-structured lesson plans that align with school and diocesan curriculum objectives, ensuring stated goals are met.
- Competent Instruction: Possess thorough knowledge of the curriculum and subject matter. You'll effectively communicate with students, organize your classroom to maximize learning time, and motivate student engagement.
- Varied Instructional Practices: Utilize diverse instructional approaches to meet the varied needs of all students.
- Student Assessment: Develop and use effective evaluation methods directly linked to curriculum objectives, consistently assessing student progress.
- Data-Driven Instruction: Gather, analyze, and use student outcome data to inform your teaching and better meet individual student needs.
- Classroom Management: Establish a consistent disciplinary approach that promotes self-direction and confidence, setting high standards for student behavior and managing inappropriate behavior effectively.
- Collaboration & Professionalism: Cooperate with school and diocesan administration and collaborate effectively with all staff to foster positive relationships with students and parents.
- Policy Adherence & Confidentiality: Always demonstrate professional responsibility by enforcing diocesan and school policies. Maintain confidentiality of information and exercise sound judgment in your dress and general behavior.
- Other Duties: Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: - Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university is required.
- Experience: Must have completed student teaching experience at a minimum.
- Skills: Possess excellent human relations and interpersonal skills. You must be a self-starter, well-organized, and proficient in using computers and educational software, including distance learning and social media platforms.
- Catholic Teacher Requirements: Must hold the required teaching certification for the state of Michigan. Successful candidates must pass a criminal background check and complete the Protecting God's Children program. Must have a strong working knowledge of the Faith; certification as a lay minister preferred. Must pass a criminal background check and complete the Protecting God's Children program.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, you will regularly walk up and down stairs, sit, stoop, squat, stand, reach, talk, hear, read, write, use a computer, and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds. Teachers are in close physical contact with students through classroom instruction and will also interact closely with coworkers and parents during meetings throughout the school year.
Environmental Conditions: Teachers must adapt to various environments. While most work is primarily indoors, you may work outdoors or outside of school grounds for activities such as supervising outdoor recess or leading field trips, which involve supervising students on buses and at various destinations.
