Description

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Behavioral Health, the Victim Advocate-Human Trafficking Survivors for Human Trafficking Survivors provides trauma-informed, client-centered support to individuals while accessing emergency housing services to assist them with transitioning from temporary shelter to stable housing. The advocate plays a crucial role in helping survivors regain independence by assisting with the coordination of housing services, access to community resources, and ongoing support as survivors rebuild their lives. This position focuses on providing wraparound services within a rapid rehousing model, ensuring the survivors' long-term safety, stability, and self-sufficiency.

  • Housing Support & Stability:
    Assist survivors in securing and maintaining housing after exiting the emergency shelter program. Help with lease negotiations, application processes, and housing placement while working closely with landlords and housing providers.
  • Case Management:
    Provide ongoing case management tailored to survivors' individual needs, including budgeting, employment assistance, healthcare referrals, and other services necessary to establish stability. Develop long-term service plans with clients focused on their self-sufficiency.
  • Crisis Intervention and Support:
    Continue to provide emotional support and crisis intervention to survivors enrolled in the emergency housing program and during their transition to independent living, ensuring that they are coping with the transition and addressing any challenges that arise.
  • Legal Advocacy:
    Assist with accessing legal services for issues related to immigration, family law, expungement, or employment rights. Provide accompaniment and support during any ongoing legal proceedings.
  • Resource Coordination:
    Connect survivors with employment opportunities, educational programs, and financial literacy resources to help them achieve economic independence. Work with community partners to ensure survivors have access to essential services such as food, healthcare, mental health counseling, and childcare.
  • Safety Planning:
    Continuously update and reassess personalized safety plans as survivors transition into more independent living environments, addressing any ongoing threats or challenges to their safety.
  • Rapid Rehousing Program Oversight:
    Assist clients with locating and securing independent housing, track rent payments, and monitor the progress of survivors as they move toward financial and housing independence.
  • Follow-Up & Ongoing Support:
    Maintain regular contact with survivors after housing placement to ensure they are adjusting well and receiving the support they need. Conduct home visits or check-ins to assess any additional needs or risks.
  • Advocacy & Empowerment:
    Foster empowerment and self-advocacy among survivors by providing them with information, tools, and resources needed to navigate housing, employment, and social services systems independently.

May occasionally lift and move up to 25 lbs., clean (sit, bend/twist neck, bend/twist waist, squat, climb, balance, stoop, crouch, reach, handle, kneel, crawl, reach above/below shoulder height, repetitive movements, wipe, sweep, dust, mop). Specific vision abilities required by the position include close vision, color vision.
  • Work Environment:
    The noise level of the work environment can range from low to moderate.
Work Schedule:
Non-Remote Position
  • Full-time: Monday through Friday
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule (i.e., evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call), as needed.


Requirements


  • Education : Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, housing, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
  • Additional certification in trauma-informed care, housing advocacy, or human trafficking advocacy is an advantage.
  • Experience : Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in victim advocacy, housing advocacy, or related social services field.
  • Experience working with survivors of human trafficking, domestic violence, or homelessness is preferred.
  • Prior experience in rapid rehousing, transitional housing programs, or homelessness services is highly desirable.
  • Skills & Abilities : In-depth knowledge of rapid rehousing models and trauma-informed care.
  • Strong crisis management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to navigate housing systems, rental assistance programs, and engage landlords.
  • Proficiency in budgeting and financial literacy, with experience in coaching clients on independent living.
  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills, both verbal and written.
  • Cultural competence and the ability to work with survivors from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, especially in maintaining confidential client files.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.
  • Language : Proficiency in oral/written English; Spanish preferred; additional languages a plus (i.e., Creole).
  • Culturally sensitive to the social, psychological, and healthcare needs of the vulnerable populations serviced.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills in order to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrates a high level of productivity while remaining calm and effective under pressure.
  • A self-starter with demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as with multidisciplinary teams and co-workers.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances.
